This week my special guest is Barbara Gottardi, the European Chief Information Officer for Vanguard. Barbara joined Vanguard in September 2020, after an extensive and impressive career with HSBC spanning more than 16 years. During her time at HSBC, Barbara held the role of Chief Information Officer within Retail Banking, as well as also being a Chief Operating Officer and a Chief Risk Admin Officer.

Barbara has also worked for Fortis Investments, Reuters and Peregrine Systems during her career.

She has Masters degree in Business Administration and Business Management qualifications from the University of London and Cambridge Judge Business School.

Barbara is a true leader and an extremely capable Chief Information and Operation Officer focussed on delivery, determined to bring structure to chaos and build high performing global teams.

In this episode Barbara and I discuss how to harness innovation from across a global organisation and how it can encourage IP Reuse. We talk about the importance of building geographically dispersed teams that are empowered and trusted to deliver digital solutions for their customers.

Barbara provides fascinating insight into how automation is enabling Vanguard to be a truly digital business and highlights how technology is successfully underpinning the overall organisational strategy.
